I often get asked why we have to inquire into our bodily sensations and emotions when we journal.
That is because your body holds onto emotions, old and new. It holds the feelings you haven’t dared to feel, the ones you that are keeping locked inside for fear they will overwhelm you.
Your body remembers everything. The time you were left crying in heartbreak, the times you were scared your mother wasn’t coming to pick you up from school, the times you felt the death of a parent. Your body remembers it all.
When you journal, you travel into those places, and when you bathe those places with your loving awareness you feel the release of these old holding patterns.
Little by little, your creative journaling walks you home to the time when you did not know how to guard against your feelings, page by page your journaling walks you home.
