How does The R.E.S.T. Practice lead to inner peace?

What a great question! Like any practice, The R.E.S.T. Practice teaches you how to create a ‘space’ where you can just be, without any judgement, away from the stress of the everyday. The difference with this practice is that through the act of creativity and guided mindful inquiry you are shown, step by step, how to find your way to the inner peace that lies within but has been blocked by your conditioning and experiences of the world. It takes you to back to your true self, to where peace lives within you, and shows you how you block your access to this every day!

What makes this different to art journaling?

The difference is that the creative techniques that are used in art journaling are used alongside the developmental aspects of The R.E.S.T. Practice. Unlike art journaling, you are guided, step by step and with a set of questions through a mindful inquiry process and together they become your practice, leading you back to you and to the peace within.

So, is it a wellbeing journal?

A wellbeing journal tends to include plans with goals, check ins etc.. It is a log, or track of what is going on and plans on what action you need to take to change things.  The R.E.S.T. Practice is about awareness, exploration and acceptance – understanding how your conditioned patterns block access to your inner peace. The first step to accessing inner peace is understanding how you are blocking your access to it!

Could I just do the guided questions without the creative bit?

The creativity plays a really important part. Creativity is the vehicle that takes you on the journey, with the guided questions providing the route. Creativity alters your state of being, taking your conscious mind ‘off-line’ and opening the doors to your exploration. Remember how engrossed you used to become as a child when you were playing? That’s what creativity does. It opens you up to possibility.

Do I have to buy lots art or journaling materials to be able to do this?

What if I’m not creative?

We hear this a lot. And it really doesn’t matter whether you consider yourself to be creative or not – everyone has creativity within them, an innate creativity and this is what The R.E.S.T. Practice taps into. And, you have instructions, videos, support and all the materials you need in your box as well as a wonderfully supportive group of people in the Facebook group. Many people who are already on this journey haven’t picked up a paintbrush or done anything ‘arty’ since they were in school and they are constantly astonished by what they can produce and achieve.

Is this the same as mindfulness?

Not really.  Whilst mindful inquiry is part of the process, the difference is that in mindfulness we tend to notice our thoughts and emotions and let them go without paying them any attention. In the R.E.S.T. Practice awareness without judgement is key. You are not trying to get rid of, ignore, fade or fix anything.

I am responsible for the wellbeing of the people in my organisation. Can I use this as a wellbeing resource for them?

Absolutely! Our wellbeing is deeply affected by how well we manage the stresses and strains of our lives. Having a practice that enables us to rest, find our way back to centre, rekindle our energy and live from a place of authenticity, truth and peace is vital to our wellbeing. The R.E.S.T. Practice can be used straight out of the box – literally and will provide your people with a resource that can support their wellbeing for the rest of their life.

I am a coach/helping practitioner. Can I use this with my clients?

The R.E.S.T. Practice’s primary function is to bring insight into the ways people trap themselves in patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving that stop them from living their life as fully as possible – that blocks access to their true self and the peace and wisdom that lies there.
